Company Recycles High-Tech Waste
Aiken Standard (SC) (7/02/07) Hughes, Haley
Global Investment Recovery of Salley, S.C., specializes in the recycling or environmentally friendly disposal of electronic scrap and has expanded in five years from a one-building, 32-employee outfit to an approximately 250-worker powerhouse that covers eight facilities. Global Investment regional sales director Jim Glenn says his company counts 121 government agencies as clients. A machine taken to Global Investment's Salley plant is disassembled one component at a time, and each piece is placed in its own pile for reuse, recycling, or shredding. Hard drives and other data-sensitive material are shredded as a matter of course, thwarting data thieves. The company's shredder can fragment 4,000 pounds per hour, and the Salley facility processes 25 to 28 trailer loads of electronics per month.
